St. John's Bible - Illuminated

Creative new elements for a collection of religious writings

The Saint John’s Bible wanted to add interaction with a clever online viewing of the various scripture readings, and purchasing prints of individual pages. They wanted to share the same database as their sister sites such as Liturgical Press, as well as have their staff design and maintain the content of much of the site.

The Saint John’s Bible is a monumental achievement. As a major artistic, cultural, and spiritual endeavor, it is the first handwritten, hand-illuminated Bible commissioned since the printed press was invented five centuries ago. Meta 13 wanted viewers of the site to capture the sacred writings of the Bible by adding an impressive Flash element. The Flash “turning page” animation gives the users of the site more interaction with the viewing and purchasing of the pages. Because Liturgical Press and St. John’s Bible share the some of the same products, they wanted to use a shared database to make site administration as easy as possible. This project was also a great example of our talented programmer’s ability to integrate complex Flash elements into a dynamically driven web site.
